About SCOR
The Swiss Center for Ontological Research (SCOR) aims to support research projects and industrial applications relevant to ontology in Switzerland (and beyond). Our mission is to serve as a hub, linking people and institutions working in the field
What is Ontology?
Ontology is a multidisciplinary field that combines philosophical inquiry with practical applications in computer and information science. Ontologists develop structured classification systems, known as ontologies, to consistently represent data and information. These ontologies facilitate data retrieval, integration, and analysis, enabling more effective computer-based reasoning. In fields like biomedicine and government, ontologies help standardize data, making it easier to compare and utilize across different systems and applications.
