Abécédaire de l'actualité en philosophie

"A" as Attention

Isabel Kaeslin

Can we define attention? And what operations do we denote by this term?

For the first episode of the Abécédaire, we met Isabel Kaeslin, researcher of the University of Fribourg, and asked her what attention is and how it works.

Talking about attention, and especially collective attention, rise up ethical and political issues. Through examples, in this interview, Isabel Kaeslin illustrates also how philosophical questions, far from being distant and abstract, are related to real-life issues that have important consequences for people's experiences.

Questioning the different ways of paying attention leads us to address personal experience, history, and the relationship that society has with the visibility of themes and problems related to different social groups.
